Production company

Every film opening contains a film production company. This is a small ident that allows the viewers to know what film companies created parts of the film. As we are doing an opening sequence to a film and indents are included in the first few seconds of films it means we need to include one. An idea that I put forward was to use Channel 4 films as the profession production featured in our opening sequence.

Film4 is a British digital television channel available in the United Kingdom it is owned and operated by Channel Four Television Corporation, that screens films. Channel four is a very know television company, they are know for stretching the boundaries in televised shows and showing never seen before things, They often show many emotive and distressful shows and footage. these shows are not for the faint hearted and stretch the boundaries of things seen on the TV.

I thought film4 would be a good ident to use because they are involved with many emotive and controversial films. Because are film opening is about heroin abuse this would tie in with Fim4 show type. Fim4 has been involved with making films like 12 years a slave and 127 hours which are both amazing and emotive films. This would be a good production company ident to use in our opening sequence

Moli production comapny

In deciding on what production companies to use it would be good to pick some that are low budget british urban dramas as large scale wars is not what our film was about. What we are looking for is small scale drug crime. British film companies capture this gritty image so our group decided for me to pick one that is most likely to fit.

Moli Films

The are able to make such films due to investors being able to take advantage of the tax benefits provided by the HMRC approved EIS scheme. This british film company have done many films and there focus is many on drug crime/war as well as film noir both conform to urban dramas which main conventions present

• Violence
• Drugs 
• Sexual references or nature
• Crime (guns, graffiti just to name a few)
• Police
• Money

Films they have done 

Montana

This film is about a boy who gets betrayed by the drug organisation he is working for. After being rescued and treated he is willing to fight back with an ex servicemen. He needs to be trained in the trailer there is a use of guns drugs and exploits of children through drug trafficking. This could not be more related to our film which is about the drug experience of the girl.

To make cost 270,000 thousand pounds 

made in excess of 1.6 million in revenue creating a 1.4 million profit.

Best Laid plans 

This film is about two friends who owe some money to an organisation to protect him his best friend fights them. In realisation about his abilities the group others the man a second chance however demands that his friend fights for his survival. We can see in the trailer it includes drugs and alcohol common conventions along with violence and money.

Editing

All off our group have contributed to editing our final piece. There are many thongs we need to do too make our filming look professional and look right. This involves many things such as stabilizing shots, cutting and shortening clips and even in our case reversing and speeding up shots for our flash back.

Whilst editing we had to transform our footage to make it look like a flash back. This flashback would be seen at the beginning off our film, When making it we had to go back on it a couple times. This is because we first didn't make the reverse speed high enough so was only double normal speed and the second time we went back was because we had too many shots in the extract so had to delete some and be specific in the ones we chose.

The way we made the flash back was to first take the footage we wanted to reverse and select it. After doing this you have to reverse the footage so when it lays it does so in reverse. This can be found on the footage select bar on the right. After this you have too click on the drop bar on the footage and then select speed of clip. We experimented with different speeds and came to the agreement that 400% faster was what we wanted to go with. This made it look professional and viewers obviously established that it was a flash back. When doing this you also have to wait for the footage to render and this may take a few minutes depending on the length of the footage and the action waiting to be rendered. You will know when it has finished as the bar will not be red at the top on the timeline.

Filming and Shot selecting

I think our group did very well when shooting our production. We started at a good time when the sun was in the right place for lighting and everyone got there within a short amount of time. the location was mostly free apart from a few people but we worked around it making the little kids get involved with helping us film rather then them rifling there scooters in the background off our location. another good thing we did was use our time very effectively. There were no major stops in filming and every thing that held us back we managed to work around and resolve this. We managed to re shoot many shots to get the best selection we could out of the production and all shots looked professional in nature.

Something we could have done better was in one of our shots bags are seen in the back of the shot that looks out of context. Next time we have to be even more carful when filming so not the get anything in the shot we do not want. the other thing we could have done better would have been to make sure all of our shots were stabilised before hand. We did a good job of this for the outside shots but rushed it when it came to the inside shots. This was because we had to finish the filming quickly as we were in a public toilet. Even so when one member off our group and the actor went to re film they still couldn't manage holding the camera in place and the footage we got back was worse then the starting footage we had. This is something we can work on for re filming the piece.

After filming all of our re shoots we had to select the best footage to use. We shoes footage that was stabilised and not shaky unless it was intentional. We also used a Varity of shits the panned correctly and weren't jerky. We also used tilts and many other shots that give us diversity. overall we did a good job filming and our footage looks profession.

Editing Footage

The task we had to achieve with the editing is to cut the footage down from about 3 minuets 30 to about 1 min 40 of original footage that way I can implement the production companies as well as the ending. 

I would do this in a number of ways:

• Cutting images down by merging them to certain points
• Getting rid of shots completely that are not needed and do not help the narrative.
• Rewinding some of the clips at different speeds 
• Also not repeating some of the footage as we had limited shots we could use

Stage One - Deleting useless Videos

This is easy to explain

Some of the footage like the one above did not have the correct lighting or standard that I was looking for. Some displayed match on action however when deleted there was still three points presented still making it match on action. In this shot It was just footage of him speaking about how much the drugs cost. This shot had too many errors

• you couldn't see his face
• poor quality sound
• acting was not good 

Many of the shots we filmed turned out like this which is why we had to use specific pieces of some parts.

Stage two - Merging Videos

This is where you grab one end of a clip and then drag it to make the previous shot flow into the next this would cut the original time of everything and make our clip even shorter. We had to be really critical for example on the walking scene we cut and merged a lot of clips to make sure it was long enough so that there was no massive jumps however short enough so that it did not get too boring.
However when we implemented the titles I felt the walking scene had something to look at making it look better.

I managed to get the clips under the time limit to 1:45 minuets without the production companies it was this length as I added an extra clip in the rewind which meant that more time was added onto the final result. 

Sound Practical

This is a sound effect that I am going to use when the girl is on the floor knocked out from the drugs to simulate a dead heart beat or the fact she cannot hear anything apart from a piercing sound. I would not fade it in as it would start when she fell on the floor and the camera follows. I would increase the sound the most when her eyes are dilating as it would effect the audience the most.

The song I want needs to fill all these categories:

• Needs to be slightly depressing so that it is in context with what she is doing.
• Needs to be non copyright if it is we need to have permission by artist (which is not going to happen as we would need to know the artist directly).
• Needs to have the ability to be lowered by final cut so the sound can be used in different situations.

Where would I find such a song?
On YouTube there is a channel which has non copyright music which you can use directly by the link asking viewers to by the song for free. Looking at them on my computer some of them have the potential to be used within our media piece.

Also on websites there are a few songs in which are free to download and use non copyright. I know this as my key words I used in the Google search engine were non-copyright songs. And then looking I made sure it was one of the top searches which prove to be the most reliable and useful.

Filming Evaluation

Filming Practical

Our filming day started off at 11 o'clock in the morning most of us got there early or on time however the person who had the props turned up late which put our filming back about 30 minuets. Despite this set back we could really film much any way as our location had a lot of kids playing around in it which would not fit the genre of drugs or crime.

When he finally arrived we got filming underway immediately and started setting out our piece of her walking to the different locations. This included sitting on a park bench to walking towards the drug location. Sadly looking back at some of the footage (at school) we got things in the way of the shot for example the pagoda had our bags behind that were blatantly visible this we need to correct. However we did do some good high angle shooting displaying the vulnerable nature as it people are looking at her.

We also wanted some talking which the camera may not of picked up however if not then it doesn't matter and we can cut the sound out. I think what we should of done is do a high angle showing her walking to and from for the rewind meaning it would make it less complex as well as not trying to string old footage and recycle it which would make the film look tacky. this would add a certain layer of difficulty as it means the actor would have to recreate her movements all over again which could display some continuity errors.












After filming all the different shots outside we decided to go into the toilets to film the drug scene.This is were our filming went down hill. We for some reason went into the females to film which was a mistake as there was three boys and one girl acting. After getting about half way through the filming someone walked in mid way through and made the situation very awkward. She left and we got kicked out of the ladies toilets after explaining what we were doing many times.

Then we waited around a long time and moved into the males and to keep continuity we moved across toilet roll and things to keep them both the same. Again cause we were quite rushed we decided not to set up the tripod which was a stupid mistake and made all the footage shaky which obviously is not the best scenario. What we did well was cut down on the amount of people in the toilet and the two of us hung around outside so if someone wanted to come in we could warn them.
