Urban dramas are known for their realistic interpretation of society and their ability to express social issues.
Urban Drama films started in the later 1980's and started hitting the mainstream in the 00's.
Stereo-typically most urban dramas are set as 'Hood Films' which show the media's interpretation of the 'Black Culture' which explicitly involves aspects of urban such as: gangs, rap, drugs, racism, violence and profanity.
