Urban Drama
- Urban dramas are known for their realistic interpretation of society and their ability to express social issues.
- Urban Drama films started in the later 1980's and started hitting the mainstream in the 00's.
- Stereo-typically most urban dramas are set as 'Hood Films' which show the media's interpretation of the 'Black Culture' which explicitly involves aspects of urban such as: gangs, rap, drugs, racism, violence and profanity.
Some examples of Urban Dramas are:
- Bullet boy
- 8 Mile
- Kidulthood
- Adulthood
- Victim
- Straight Outta Compton
Common Conventions
- Often multi racial cast (Commonly Black)
- Class, status and ethnicity is usually a theme.
- Usually located in urban areas, often rundown (Ghetto)
- Usually speak in slang.
